Ongoing Care
Beyond 90k
High-mileage & ongoing interval maintenance
All Fluids Re-Evaluated — transmission, coolant, differentials, power steering all assessed on condition rather than fixed intervals
Seal & Gasket Check — valve cover, oil pan, intake, and coolant circuit gaskets inspected for weeping or active leaks
High-Mileage Component Assessment — alternator output, water pump, thermostat, and accessory drive components checked for signs of wear
Custom Interval Planning — we build a forward maintenance schedule tailored to your vehicle’s actual condition, mileage, and usage — not a generic chart
Tire Wear & Alignment Review — uneven wear patterns at high mileage often indicate suspension wear that needs addressing before new tires are fitted
Pro Tip
These intervals are guidelines based on manufacturer averages — your actual vehicle may need some services earlier or later depending on driving conditions, climate, and usage patterns. A vehicle used primarily for short trips never fully warms up the oil, which accelerates contamination. A highway commuter car may stretch some intervals slightly. When you book with NorTech, we assess your vehicle’s actual condition rather than defaulting mechanically to a mileage number on a chart.

What Goes Wrong at Each Milestone
These are the issues we most commonly find when vehicles arrive at each interval — and the reason each service item exists on the schedule.
At 30,000 Miles
Restricted air filters reducing engine airflow and fuel economy by 10–15%
Uneven tire wear from skipped rotations — often caught too late to save the tire
Brake pad glazing from inconsistent pad compound contact at lower mileage
Coolant at low level or with inhibitor additives depleted from the first heat cycle seasons
At 60,000 Miles
Worn spark plugs producing weak spark — misfires, rough idle, reduced fuel economy
Contaminated brake fluid with elevated moisture content — boiling point reduced 40–60°F
Serpentine belt starting to glaze and develop minor surface cracking — failure risk increasing
Transmission fluid dark and depleted of friction modifier additives — shift quality degrading
At 90,000 Miles
Timing belt at or approaching interval — failure causes catastrophic engine damage on interference engines
Suspension components with measurable play — vibrations, pulling, and premature tire wear
Carbon buildup in throttle body and injectors — reduced power, hesitation, fuel economy drop
Battery CCA dropping to 60–70% of rated capacity — cold weather starting becoming unreliable
Beyond 90k
Weeping valve cover and oil pan gaskets — oil burning smell, slow consumption, minor staining
Differential and transfer case fluids never serviced — bearing wear accumulating undetected
Water pump impeller vanes eroding — coolant flow restricted, overheating under load
Alternator output declining — battery chronically undercharged, electrical gremlins developing
Individual Maintenance Services
Each item in your milestone package is also available as a standalone service — book individual services between milestone intervals as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about scheduled milestone maintenance with NorTech.
My car is at 75,000 miles — do I book the 60k or 90k service?
It depends on what’s been done. If you completed a proper 60k service at or around 60,000 miles, you’re between intervals — a standard oil change, filter check, and brake inspection is appropriate now. If the 60k service was skipped or incomplete, we can perform a catch-up service covering everything due from the 60k list now, then set a proper baseline for the 90k interval. Tell us your service history and we’ll build the right plan.
Does scheduled maintenance affect my manufacturer warranty?
Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, manufacturers cannot require you to use a dealership for routine maintenance to maintain your warranty — you can have maintenance performed by any qualified service provider, including a mobile technician. What’s required is that you follow the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule and maintain records of the work performed. We document every service with parts used, fluid specifications, mileage, and date — records that fully satisfy warranty documentation requirements.
I bought a used car with no service history — where do I start?
Start with a full fluid and component condition assessment — which we do at the start of every service. Dark transmission fluid at 80,000 miles tells us it was never changed. Spark plugs that look original at 70,000 miles tell us the 60k service was missed. We assess what’s actually in the vehicle right now, build a catch-up service around what’s genuinely overdue, and set a proper forward schedule from there. Don’t assume — assess.
How is a timing belt different from a serpentine belt, and why is it only at 90k?
The serpentine belt drives external accessories — alternator, power steering pump, AC compressor. If it breaks, the engine keeps running but those systems stop. The timing belt (or chain) synchronizes the engine’s internal valve timing with the crankshaft. If it fails on an interference engine, pistons and valves collide — typically destroying the engine completely. Timing belt replacement intervals vary by manufacturer (60k–105k miles) and are among the most critical maintenance items on any vehicle that uses one. We check it at 90k because that’s when most vehicles reach or pass the replacement interval.
Can I skip the 30k service and just wait for the 60k?
Technically possible, but not recommended. The 30k service exists because air filters, cabin filters, and fluid condition don’t wait for the 60k milestone — they degrade based on actual operating hours and cycles. A clogged air filter at 40,000 miles is hurting fuel economy and engine airflow whether you’ve “officially” serviced it or not. The 30k interval is specifically designed to catch these shorter-service-life items before they impact performance or lead to bigger issues.
Do you use OEM parts or aftermarket?
We use OEM-specification parts — meaning parts that meet or exceed the manufacturer’s original specifications for your vehicle. This includes manufacturer-approved oil filters, spark plugs meeting OEM heat range and electrode spec, and fluids meeting OEM viscosity and additive package requirements. We source from reputable suppliers and confirm part compatibility for your specific vehicle before every appointment. If you prefer genuine OEM parts from the dealer for a specific item, let us know and we’ll arrange that.
How long does a full milestone service take?
A 30k service typically runs 1.5–2 hours. A 60k service is closer to 2.5–3 hours. A full 90k service with diagnostics, timing belt inspection, and suspension check generally takes 3–4 hours. All services are performed at your location — you don’t need to go anywhere. We’ll give you a more precise estimate when you book based on your specific vehicle and service scope.
What if you find something during the service that needs additional repair?
We communicate everything we find during the assessment and service — clearly and without pressure. If we spot a brake caliper that’s seizing, a leaking valve cover gasket, or a battery that’s testing at 55% capacity, we tell you what we found, what it means, and what it will cost to address. You decide whether to have it done that visit or schedule it separately. We never perform additional work without your explicit approval.
