By Room

Cabinet & Vanity Installation by Space

Cabinet installation requirements differ significantly between a kitchen, a bathroom, and a utility room. NorTech technicians are trained for every residential cabinetry application.

Kitchen Cabinets

The most complex cabinetry installation in a home. Kitchen cabinet installation involves upper cabinets secured to wall studs, base cabinets leveled across uneven floors, corner units configured correctly, and every door and drawer adjusted to hang and operate consistently. Layout planning before installation is essential to avoid gaps, misalignments, and wasted space.

Bathroom Vanity

Bathroom vanity installation requires positioning the cabinet correctly around existing plumbing rough-ins, securing to wall studs, and ensuring the top surface is level for countertop and sink installation. Freestanding, floating, and built-in vanity styles each have different mounting requirements. NorTech handles all three.

Laundry & Utility Rooms

Overhead cabinetry in laundry and utility rooms adds storage without taking floor space. These cabinets must be anchored into studs to safely hold detergent, cleaning supplies, and household items. NorTech locates studs, installs blocking where needed, and secures every unit to handle real-world load.

Installation Process

What’s Included in Every NorTech Cabinet Installation

Cabinet installation is more than setting boxes on a wall. Every NorTech cabinet installation includes these steps โ€” none of which get skipped to save time.

Stud Location & Layout

Every wall cabinet is secured into studs โ€” never just drywall. We locate studs before drilling and mark the layout lines so every cabinet is positioned correctly from the first unit installed.

Leveling & Shimming

Floors and walls are rarely perfectly level. Base cabinets are shimmed from below and wall cabinets are shimmed at mounting points to ensure every run is level regardless of what the surface underneath is doing.

Securing & Fastening

Cabinets are secured to studs with appropriate screws and fasteners for the cabinet material. Adjacent cabinets are also fastened together through the face frames or side panels to prevent separation over time.

Door & Drawer Adjustment

Every door is adjusted for consistent reveal, proper swing, and flush closure. Every drawer is tested for smooth operation and adjusted if binding or misaligned. Soft-close hardware is calibrated if present.

Scribing & Filler Strips

Where cabinets meet walls that are out of plumb, scribe molding or filler strips close the gap cleanly. This step is what separates a professional installation from a rough one โ€” gaps against the wall are not acceptable.

Cleanup & Final Inspection

NorTech technicians clean up the installation area completely before leaving and do a final walk-through with the homeowner. Every door, every drawer, and every cabinet face is checked before the job is marked complete.

Diagnose the Issue

Common Cabinet Problems That Need Professional Repair

Cabinet problems that seem minor โ€” a crooked door, a sticky drawer โ€” often signal a structural issue with how the cabinet was installed. These are the most common issues NorTech repairs.

Sagging Wall Cabinets

Wall cabinets that have pulled away from the wall or are visibly dropping are a safety hazard. This happens when cabinets were not secured into studs. Re-anchoring requires locating proper structural backing and re-mounting before the cabinet fails completely.

Misaligned Cabinet Doors

Doors that don’t close flush, hang at an angle, or leave uneven gaps between adjacent doors are an adjustment issue โ€” usually correctable by tuning the European hinges without removing the door. If the cabinet box itself is racked, shimming may be required.

Drawer Slides Failing

Drawers that stick, fall off track, or won’t close fully usually have worn or broken drawer slides. Slide replacement is a straightforward repair โ€” the drawer is removed, old slides are unscrewed, and new slides are installed and adjusted for smooth operation.

Gaps at the Wall

Visible gaps between cabinet sides and the adjacent wall are a sign the cabinets were installed without scribing or filler strips. This is a cosmetic issue that can be resolved by adding scribe molding cut to match the wall’s profile.

Cabinet Not Level

An unlevel cabinet run causes every door and drawer in that section to operate improperly. Correcting this after installation requires loosening the fasteners, shimming to level, and re-securing โ€” not a simple fix, but a necessary one.

Vanity Not Centered on Plumbing

A bathroom vanity installed without accounting for the plumbing location creates clearance issues for the drain and supply lines. Repositioning requires careful remeasurement, wall patching at the old location, and re-securing at the correct position.

Full kitchen cabinet install โ€” uppers and lowers. Everything is level, every door closes flush, and the gap between the cabinets and the ceiling was covered with a scribe strip that looks like it was always meant to be there. Clean work from start to finish.

Naomi B.

IKEA kitchen cabinets assembled and installed. I bought the flat-packs and NorTech handled everything from unboxing to final adjustment. Saved me a weekend of stress and the result is better than I would have managed myself.

Darnell F.

Double vanity installed in the master bath. They positioned it correctly around the plumbing, shimmed it level, and secured it solidly to the studs. Countertop installer had no issues following up the next day.

Portia S.

Three wall cabinets were sagging in the laundry room โ€” previous installer hadn’t hit the studs. NorTech pulled them, located the studs with a scanner, re-installed with proper fasteners, and the cabinets are now completely solid.

Eliot M.

Had soft-close hardware added to all kitchen drawers and doors. Technician knew exactly how to adjust the hinges for the right amount of resistance. Small job but they treated it with the same attention as a full install.

Vivienne T.

New bathroom vanity replacing an old pedestal sink. They handled the positioning, wall anchoring, and left the plumbing connections ready for my plumber. Good communication throughout โ€” I knew exactly what was happening at every step.
