Holiday Lights Installation & Removal for Homes and Businesses

Getting holiday lights up on a two-story roofline is a ladder job most homeowners would rather not do themselves โ€” and taking them down in January is even less appealing. NorTech handles both ends of the season: clean professional installation before the holidays and complete removal with storage-ready bundling afterward.

We work with your existing lights or you can purchase new ones to have on-site before scheduling. Our crew handles roofline hanging with proper gutter clips, tree and shrub wrapping, extension cord routing to outdoor outlets, and strand testing before we leave. No staples or nails on your gutters, no tape on your siding, no hardware left behind after removal.

Available for residential and commercial properties. Book early โ€” November schedules fill fast.

Full Service Coverage

Everything Included in Our Holiday Lights Service

Installation and removal are separate services โ€” each scoped and priced independently. Here’s exactly what each covers.

Roofline Light Installation

Lights hung along the full roofline, fascia, or gutters using plastic gutter clips โ€” no penetrations into roofing or siding material. Consistent spacing, clean lines, and even strand overlaps at connection points.

No nails, no staples

Tree & Shrub Wrapping

String light or net light installation on trees and shrubs. Trunk-and-branch wrapping on specimen trees, net light draping on hedges and foundation shrubs, and icicle light hanging on overhanging branches.

String, net, or icicle styles

Outlet Connection & Cord Routing

Extension cords routed cleanly from outdoor outlets to the display โ€” along the roofline, through bushes, or down a corner. We confirm outlet locations before installation and advise if additional power access is needed.

Clean, low-visibility routing

Strand Testing

Every strand tested and confirmed working before we leave. Dead bulbs identified and flagged. If a strand fails during the season, we advise on replacement and can return to re-hang if needed.

Full test before completion

Full Removal Service

Complete takedown of all lights, clips, and hardware. Lights bundled neatly for storage with no tangles. All gutter clips and hooks removed. Yard and gutters left completely clear โ€” no hardware, no clips, no cord remnants.

Zero hardware left behind

Commercial Installations

Storefronts, office buildings, restaurants, and retail centers. Scoped on-site based on linear footage, display complexity, and power requirements. Commercial removal also available.

When to Book

The Right Time to Schedule Installation and Removal

Holiday lighting is one of our most time-sensitive services. Here’s the booking timeline that works best for most homeowners.

October

Best time to book. Widest availability, most scheduling flexibility. Ideal for homeowners who want lights up by early November.

Early November

Still good availability. Most customers target Thanksgiving weekend for lights to be up. Book at least 2โ€“3 weeks ahead.

Midโ€“Late November

Schedules fill quickly. Limited availability for the week before Thanksgiving. Book as early as possible in this window.

December

Very limited availability. Last-minute slots exist but cannot be guaranteed. Early December is possible; mid-December is difficult.

January (Removal)

Best month for removal scheduling. Post-holiday demand is manageable and lights come down before extended winter weather.

February (Removal)

Still available but competing with others who delayed. Lights left up through February are more exposed to ice and wind damage.

Our recommendation: Book installation in October, schedule removal at the same time for January. Locking in both dates upfront ensures you get preferred timing on both ends of the season without a second round of scheduling.

What Affects the Cost of Holiday Lights Installation?

Every home is different. Here’s what drives the installation and removal quote.

The primary labor driver is how much roofline needs to be covered. A small single-story ranch is a 2-hour job. A large two-story with complex roofline angles and multiple gable ends is a full day. We measure the linear footage during the on-site quote and base the estimate on actual coverage.

Single-story rooflines are accessible from a standard extension ladder. Two-story homes require longer ladders, more repositioning time, and may require a two-person crew for safety. Steep pitch rooflines that require roof walking add additional time and safety considerations factored into the quote.

Adding tree and shrub lighting to the roofline service adds time proportional to the number of trees and size of each. A single specimen tree with trunk-and-branch wrapping takes 30โ€“60 minutes. A row of foundation shrubs with net lights is faster per unit. We quote trees and shrubs separately from roofline coverage.

Removal is typically faster than installation since there’s no spacing or alignment work โ€” it’s straight takedown and bundling. However, homes with many clips, complex roofline configurations, or large tree wrapping take proportionally longer to remove cleanly. Removal is quoted separately based on the original installation scope.

Homes with conveniently located outdoor outlets add minimal time for cord routing. Homes where the nearest outdoor outlet requires significant cord routing distance or creative path planning add time. If no outdoor outlet is accessible near the display area, we advise on adding one before installation.

Every job starts with a full on-site diagnostic. You receive a complete written estimate before any work begins.

“Had one strand fail mid-season. Tech came back, identified the faulty strand, and re-hung a replacement I had on hand. Warranty covered the return visit. No fuss at all.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Holiday Lights Installation & Removal โ€” Common Questions

Straight answers on scheduling, what’s included, lights supply, and what to expect.

NorTech holiday lights installation includes roofline hanging with gutter clips or adhesive hooks, tree and shrub wrapping, connection to outdoor outlets or extension cord routing, and testing every strand before we leave. We work with your existing lights or you can purchase new lights to have on-site before scheduling. Removal service is scheduled separately and includes full takedown and storage-ready bundling.

NorTech is a professional installation service โ€” we provide labor, clips, and hardware, not the lights themselves. Most customers purchase their own lights from a retailer and have them on-site before scheduling. If you need help estimating how many strands you need for your roofline or trees, our technician can advise during the on-site quote.

We recommend scheduling installation in October or early November before demand peaks. Most homeowners want lights up by Thanksgiving weekend, and November schedules fill quickly. For removal, we recommend scheduling in January โ€” waiting until late winter means competing with other post-holiday takedowns and potentially leaving lights exposed to winter weather longer than necessary.

We use plastic gutter clips that hook over the gutter lip without penetrating the gutter or roofing material. For homes without gutters, we use adhesive gutter hooks rated for exterior use or shingle tabs. We do not use staples, nails, or tape on any roofing or siding material. All clips are removed during the takedown service with no damage to the home.

Yes. We install holiday lights on single-story and two-story homes as well as larger commercial properties. Two-story installations require additional ladder setup time and may require a two-person crew for safety on steep or high rooflines. Height and roof pitch are assessed during the on-site quote and factored into the estimate.

Yes. Removal is a separate service scheduled after the holiday season. We take down all lights, remove all clips and hardware, bundle the lights neatly for storage, and leave the home with no trace of hardware on the gutters, roofline, or landscaping. Removal is typically scheduled in January or early February.

We route extension cords from an available outdoor outlet to the display in a clean, low-visibility path โ€” along the roofline, down a corner, or through bushes depending on the home’s layout. If no outdoor outlet is accessible, we advise on the best solution, which may include having an electrician add an outdoor outlet before installation. We confirm outlet availability during the quote.

Yes. We wrap trees and shrubs with net lights or string lights depending on the coverage desired. Trunk-and-branch wrapping on large trees takes more time and material than standard shrub netting. We estimate strand quantities and advise on light types during the on-site quote.

Yes. We install holiday lighting for commercial properties including storefronts, office buildings, restaurants, and retail centers. Commercial installations are quoted on-site based on linear footage, display complexity, power requirements, and access. Commercial removal service is also available.

Yes. All holiday lights installation work completed by NorTech is covered by our 1-year labor warranty. If clips detach, strands fall, or connections fail due to installation defects during the display season, we return and correct it at no charge.
