The most versatile closet space in a home. Walk-in closet systems typically combine multiple hanging zones, shelving sections, and drawer units along two or three walls. Configuration planning before installation is essential to avoid dead corners and wasted vertical space.
Reach-In Closets
The standard bedroom closet — typically 24 to 30 inches deep and 4 to 8 feet wide. Most reach-in closets are significantly underutilized with just a single rod and shelf. A properly configured system with double hanging, shelving towers, and shoe storage can triple the usable capacity of the same space.
Wardrobe & Armoire Systems
Freestanding wardrobe units — including IKEA PAX and similar flat-pack systems — assembled and wall-anchored for safety. Freestanding wardrobes must be secured to the wall to prevent tipping, particularly in homes with children. NorTech handles full assembly and anchoring.

What Goes Into a Custom Closet System
A well-designed closet system is built from components that work together. NorTech installs all of these elements and configures each one for the specific storage demands of your space.
Shelving
Fixed and adjustable shelves in melamine, solid wood, wire, or laminate. Shelf depth, spacing, and load rating are matched to the items being stored. Heavy storage like folded denim or shoes requires different shelf support than light linen storage.
Hanging Rods
Single hang for long items like dresses and suits, double hang for shirts and jackets. Rod placement height is adjusted for the user — not installed at a generic default height. Oval rods are installed where sliding hangers are a priority.
Drawer Units
Drawer towers for folded items, accessories, and undergarments built into the system layout. Full-extension drawer slides are installed so the entire drawer depth is accessible. Soft-close hardware is available on compatible systems.
Shoe Storage
Angled shoe shelves, flat shoe shelves, and cubbies configured for the number and type of shoes being stored. Shoe storage is one of the most commonly underplanned elements in a closet — NorTech accounts for it in the initial layout.
Vertical Panels & Standards
The structural backbone of any closet system. Vertical panels and shelf standards are anchored into studs or with rated wall anchors — never just into drywall. Load-bearing components get structural fasteners regardless of the system brand.
Accessories & Add-Ons
Hooks, valet rods, tie and belt racks, pull-out hampers, and jewelry organizers installed within the system layout. These items are configured at ergonomic heights and positioned so they don’t conflict with hanging garments or drawer operation.

Common Closet Problems That Need Professional Repair
Most closet failures trace back to how the system was anchored — or wasn’t. These are the problems NorTech sees most often in existing closet installations.
Sagging Shelves
Shelves that bow in the middle are either overloaded, undersupported, or made from material that is not rated for the load being placed on them. Adding intermediate brackets or replacing the shelf material with a thicker or stronger option corrects the sag and prevents failure.
Anchors Pulling Out of the Wall
The most common closet failure — wall anchors installed into drywall without hitting a stud pulling free under load. The fix is removing the system, locating studs, adding blocking if needed, and reinstalling with structural fasteners. Drywall anchors alone are not adequate for loaded closet systems.
Hanging Rod Collapsing
A closet rod that bends or pulls its brackets from the wall was either too long without a center support, too thin for the load, or bracket-mounted into drywall only. Center supports and stud-anchored brackets are required for any rod span over 48 inches under load.
Drawers That Stick or Fall Off Track
Drawer slides in closet systems wear out faster than kitchen drawers because of heavier, bulkier items. Slide replacement is a straightforward repair — the drawer is removed, old slides are unscrewed, and new full-extension slides are installed and adjusted.
Wire Shelving That Isn’t Working
Builder-grade wire shelving is functional but has real limitations — items fall through, shoes tip, and the single-rod setup wastes most of the vertical space. Replacing wire shelving with a solid system is one of the highest-impact closet upgrades with immediate daily benefit.
System Not Fitting the Space
