Why an inventory is the first step

A careful inventory with photos and descriptions is the backbone of both the pack-out and any insurance claim that goes with it. The crew goes room by room, numbering boxes, tagging furniture and noting condition before anything is moved. That record shows what was packed, where it went and what shape it was in. It also makes the return day simple, because every box is matched to its original room instead of piled in a pile of mystery cartons. Ask the crew to photograph valuables and high-value items as they go, and to flag fragile pieces that need special wrapping.

Cleaning and protecting contents after damage

After smoke, soot or water, many belongings can be saved if the right cleaning method is used promptly. Hard goods may be wiped or ultrasonically cleaned, soft goods laundered or dry cleaned and electronics sent for specialist review. Paper goods and photographs need freezing or professional restoration. The crew separates items by material and condition, so nothing is cleaned with a method that will ruin it, and nothing contaminated is stored beside things that are clean.

Storage, timing and getting everything back

Contents may be stored in a secure, monitored facility for weeks or months while the home is repaired. Ask about climate control, insurance coverage on stored goods and how items are accessed if you need something sooner. When the work is finished, the crew brings everything back, sets furniture in place and unpacks boxes as you direct. Keep the inventory sheet and the storage agreement together, because both matter if you ever need to make a claim.
