Get Ready
How to prepare for your service visit
A few minutes of prep before your pro arrives means a faster, smoother visit — here's everything worth doing ahead of time.
Six things to do before your pro arrives
Confirm the details
Double-check the date and arrival window in your account, let everyone at home know a pro is coming, and update any access notes or gate codes ahead of time.
Clear the work area
Move furniture and personal items out of the way, leave 3+ feet of clearance around the work zone, and set valuables aside so your pro can assess the job quickly.
Unlock & provide access
Unlock gates, garage doors, utility closets, or attic hatches your pro will need, and clear a path through hallways so nothing slows the visit down.
Share what you know
Note when the problem started, how often it happens, and which fixture or appliance is affected — a quick note on your booking or a word to your pro on arrival saves time.
Secure pets & keep kids clear
Crate pets or keep them in a separate room, let your pro know animals are on the property, and keep children away from tools and the work area.
Put away valuables
Store jewelry, cash, electronics, and sensitive documents away from the work area, and close off any rooms that don’t need to be accessed.
Prep by service type
A few extra tips specific to your job.
Electrical
- Clear the area around breaker panels, outlets, and switches you’re having worked on
- Note which circuit or fixture is affected
- Don’t reset breakers yourself before the visit — leave them as-is so your pro can diagnose it
Plumbing
- Clear the space under sinks and around the water heater
- Know where your main shutoff valve is, if you can
- Note any leaks, discoloration, or smells you’ve noticed
Painting
- Move furniture away from the walls being painted
- Remove wall art and secure fragile items nearby
- Confirm your color/finish choice ahead of time and make sure the room can be ventilated
Exterior — Roofing, Gutters & Decks
- Move vehicles out from under the work area if it’s over a driveway
- Clear outdoor furniture and decor nearby
- Ensure attic access is clear if it’s needed
- Note any specific leaks or soft spots you’ve noticed
Interior & Window Cleaning
- Pick up clutter from floors and counters
- Secure fragile items in the areas being cleaned
- Clear bathroom and kitchen counters
- Empty trash cans so your pro can start fresh
Lawn & Landscaping
- Pick up outdoor toys and decor from the yard
- Mark sprinkler heads if they’re hard to see
- Unlock gate access to the yard
- Keep pets indoors while the crew is working
General Handyman & Repairs
- Write out your task list ahead of time so nothing gets missed
- Clear furniture from the areas needing repair
- Have any materials you’ve already purchased on hand
- Mention any HOA restrictions that might apply
Quick reference checklist
Have questions before, during, or after the visit? Ask them — your pro expects it, and there's often a follow-up recommendation worth hearing. And once the job's done, we'd love your feedback.
