Dumpster Rental & Mini-Bin

A dumpster turns a messy project into a manageable one. Instead of hauling load after load, you fill a bin at your own pace and a truck carries it away. The right size and the right placement keep the project on schedule and the driveway intact. NorTech connects you with vetted independent providers who deliver, pick up and set their own price for the rental.

Choosing the right size

Mini bins suit a garage cleanout or a small bathroom remodel, and larger roll-off containers handle roofing, whole-room demolition or major cleanouts. Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt or brick are usually limited to smaller containers because of weight. A provider can recommend a size from your project description. Picking a size that is too small means paying for a second haul, while oversizing wastes money on space you do not use. Measure the space where the bin will sit and note any gates, low branches or narrow turns, because a driver who cannot reach the spot may not be able to deliver.

Placement, permits and protecting your driveway

Dumpsters are heavy and can scratch or crack a driveway, so many providers set down boards under the wheels. A level, clear spot with room for the truck to deliver and pick up is best. If the container has to sit on a public street, a city permit may be required, and the provider can often help with that. Tell the provider about overhead wires, low branches and any tight turns on the way to your property. Load heavy items first and spread them evenly, then fill around them, and keep everything below the rim so the container can travel on the road.

What you can and cannot throw away

Most household and remodel debris is allowed, but hazardous materials such as paint, solvents, batteries, tires, appliances with refrigerant and propane tanks are restricted. Mattresses and electronics may carry extra fees. Overfilling a bin above the rim is not allowed, because the truck cannot transport it safely. Your provider will give you a list of restrictions and the weight limit, and extra weight may be charged separately. Ask what the weight limit is and what extra weight costs, since concrete and roofing shingles reach the limit much faster than furniture and drywall.

Frequently asked

Dumpster Rental & Mini-Bin — common questions

A small bin is good for a garage cleanout, and larger roll-off containers handle remodels and roofing. Describe the project and your provider will suggest a size.

Often yes, in a dumpster sized for heavy loads, but it is limited by weight. Tell the provider in advance so they choose the right container and price.

If the dumpster sits on your own driveway, usually not. On a public street, a permit is often required, and your provider may be able to arrange it. Your provider can tell you what the city requires and how far in advance the permit has to be filed.

Hazardous materials, paint, batteries, tires and certain appliances are restricted. Ask for the provider’s list of prohibited items. Disposing of restricted items separately avoids fines and keeps the pickup from being refused.

Rental periods vary from a few days to a couple of weeks. Longer periods can be arranged for larger projects. Ask about the daily rate for extra time and the notice needed to schedule the pickup.

The 30-day workmanship warranty covers delivery and pickup as agreed, such as damage the provider causes to your property. Overweight charges and prohibited items are outside it.
