Licensed electrician for Bay Area homes

Electrical work is where a license matters most: it touches your panel, your wiring and the permit that keeps your insurance honest. On NorTech, electrical work that needs a license is booked only with an independent contractor whose California C-10 electrical license we have checked ourselves, never with someone who is still working toward one.

The license, and how we check it

California class C-10: Electrical Contractor

Every California electrical contractor holds a C-10 license, and you can look any license number up on the state licensing board website. We do the same check before a contractor can take licensed electrical work on NorTech.

Smaller jobs and bigger jobs

Small fixture work, like swapping a light fixture or a switch, is handled as a smaller job under the California handyman exemption: under $1,000 in total, no permit needed. The moment a job needs a permit, touches the panel, or grows past that limit, it moves to a licensed electrician instead.

Smaller electrical jobs: Ceiling Fan Installation, Switches, Outlets & GFCI, Light Fixture Replacement, Recessed Lighting, Under-Cabinet & Cabinet Lighting, Smart Switches & Dimmers, Bathroom Exhaust Fan, Smoke & CO Detector Installation.

Frequently asked

Hiring a licensed electrician: common questions

In practice, yes. A home charger usually needs its own circuit and a permit, and in California, when you hire someone to do electrical work that needs a permit, they have to be a licensed contractor. On NorTech, EV charger jobs are booked only with a verified C-10 electrician.

Before a contractor can take licensed work here, we check their license against the state licensing board record for status and expiry. You can run the same lookup yourself with the license number on your booking.

C-10 is the California contractor license class for electrical work. A C-10 holder has passed the state trade and law exams and carries the bond the state requires.

Only small jobs under the handyman exemption: under $1,000 in total, with no permit required. Panel work, new circuits and anything needing an inspection go to a licensed electrician.

For work that needs a permit, permit and inspection handling is part of the scope your licensed contractor confirms with you in your up-front quote before you book.
