How to Prepare Your Home for an Inspection or Repair Visit
By NorTech Services
Get the Most Out of Your Appointment by Preparing in Advance
Scheduling an inspection or repair with NorTech is a smart step toward protecting your home’s safety, comfort, and efficiency. Whether you’re scheduled for a routine inspection or a specific service—like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, or appliance diagnostics—being prepared helps our technicians work faster, more thoroughly, and with minimal disruption to your day.
Here’s everything you need to know to get ready:
1. Confirm Appointment Details
Double-check your appointment date and time
Ensure there are no scheduling conflicts and that someone 18 or older will be home to grant access.
Provide special instructions in advance
Let us know about access codes, security gates, or pets ahead of time to avoid delays. You can update details directly through your Member Portal or by contacting the NorTech Dispatch Team.
2. Clear the Area Around the Work Zone
Make space for your technician
Whether we’re inspecting an HVAC system, plumbing under a sink, or attic ductwork, clear away any personal items, storage bins, or furniture that may block access.
Examples by service type:
- Electrical: Clear around breaker panels, outlets, switches, and light fixtures.
- Plumbing: Clear under sinks, near water heaters, or around outdoor spigots.
- HVAC: Ensure clear access to air handlers, condensers, thermostats, and vents.
- Roof/Attic: Move any obstacles blocking attic hatches or crawlspace entries.
- Appliances: Unload or tidy laundry machines and kitchen appliances for testing.
- Interior/Exterior Surfaces: Make sure walls, floors, baseboards, and siding are visible.
3. Ensure Easy Access to Key Areas
Unlock any gates, garage doors, utility closets, or attic hatches.
Remove anything blocking hallways or access paths so our technicians can move equipment safely and efficiently.
4. Share Relevant Information Ahead of Time
Be ready to explain the issue or concern
The more you can tell us before we arrive, the more precise and effective we can be.
Examples:
- Noticing flickering lights, hot outlets, or tripping breakers? Let us know.
- Slow drains, strange smells, or recent leaks? Mention them upfront.
- Appliances not heating, cooling, or draining properly? Share what you’ve observed.
5. Secure Pets & Inform Us of Hazards
Keep pets and small children away from work areas
This ensures everyone’s safety and lets the technician stay focused. If you have indoor pets, consider keeping them in a separate room during the visit.
6. Be Ready for a Follow-Up, If Needed
Some repairs or services may require additional time or parts
If the inspection identifies a more complex issue, we may recommend a follow-up visit. You’ll receive a summary and recommendations in your inspection report with next steps clearly outlined.
7. Store or Secure Valuables
While our team is fully vetted and professional, it’s always smart to secure any valuables or sensitive materials—especially if work is being done in bedrooms, offices, or private storage areas.
8. Keep Your Contact Info Updated
We may reach out with last-minute updates or follow-up instructions. Make sure your phone number and email are current in your Member Profile.
9. Ask Questions—Before, During, or After
We want you to feel confident and informed. Don’t hesitate to ask your technician about:
- What they’re inspecting or repairing
- How long it will take
- How to maintain or monitor the issue moving forward
10. Leave Feedback After Your Visit
We value your input!
You’ll receive a follow-up email with a link to rate your service. Your feedback helps us keep improving and ensures we’re delivering the level of care your home deserves.
